About Us

What Makes Our AAU Boys Basketball Program Special?

The Coaching Staff

Our coaching staff is the foundation of our program. We have excellent coaches, but they are even better people! Our coaches are tremendous leaders that have all served as civil servants (varsity high school coaches, educators, law enforcement, and military). Our coaches have played professionally or at the collegiate level. Our coaches are all parents that have children that have graduated or currently in the SRVUSD. Our coaches treat players, model behavior and preach life skills the way they would talk to their own child. Their knowledge and passion for the game is phenomenal!
Note: please read the coaching bios on our coaches page.

Our philosophy

Sacred Hoops has been specifically designed for players of all ability levels to build life skills through the game of basketball, and allow each player to become the best version of themselves on and off the court.

Organization and Consistency

As a program, we coordinate TeamSnap management, excellent relationships with tournament directors, and our connections with local school districts and city recreation departments allow Sacred Hoops to practice and play in tournaments locally in the Danville, San Ramon, and Dublin areas. Occasionally, we play tournaments in Livermore and Walnut Creek. This allows families to have an organized “family calendar” while receiving our top-level coaching.

Offense

Sacred Hoops runs the Read & React Offense. Through a progression of skill development, breakdown drills, and building the offense, players learn how to play fundamentally with and without the basketball. “With every action there is a reaction”. Back Cuts, Laker Cuts, and Dribble @’s help players have a constant flow and “trusting” their teammates to make the correct basketball decision. Players “Read” how they are being defended, and make the proper decision “React”. It takes the thinking out of basketball and allows the players to simply play with a “Flow”

Defense

Sacred Hoops uses the Run & Jump Defense. Through a progression of full court 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, & 5 on 5 drills players learn how to play an aggressive style. Points of emphasis include:
1. Force dribbler to the weak hand
2. Fight over on ball screens
3. “Hedge” help over the on ball screens
4. Get to the “Split/Help line”- Help Defense
5. Closeout properly to the strong hand and force week hand
6. “Help the Helper”-proper defensive rotations
7. Blocking Out & Rebounding “Do your work early”
